AFE’s Stars of 2021: Anthony Williams (Llangoed)

IT’S a pleasure to feature a man who has A) become a good friend of mine and B) has really put the work in over the past few years to reap the rewards he is now.

Anthony Williams first signed for my club Llandegfan in the winter of 2019. Arriving as a goalkeeper, me and my assistant Ryan Williams quickly realised he was destined to play outfield with his raw pace and determination to get forward.

He went onto become a vital part of the Llandeg team that season before it was cut short in March due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

He helped the club onto its first win in two-and-a-half years with a Man of the Match performance and an assist in the 2-1 with at Pentraeth Reserves in January 2020.

Last summer, the 30-year-old moved to Llangoed alongside myself where I am now manager of the Reserves.

Since moving to Tyddyn Paun, he’s been playing out of his skin and has proven what I’ve known about him all along – that he can be a consistent goalscorer and a key player in any team at this level.

In a season where wins have so far been hard to come by for Llangoed, it is Williams who has been their shining star.

He has scored 13 goals in 18 matches in all competitions and also scored a goal for my Reserves when we beat Kinmel Bay’s second string 5-0 back in October.

He started his season with a memorable hat-trick in the 3-3 draw at Cefni and has been leaving defenders in the dust with his pace at times. A real joy to watch!
