IT’S NOT often you see two newly-promoted sides sitting top of the league they have made their way up into – but that’s exactly what is happening in the North Wales Coast West Premier right now.
Bethesda Athletic and Talysarn Celts finished second and third in Division One respectively last season and were subsequently promoted to the Premier Division.
But, so far this season, they have been proving that they do not only belong in tier four – but they are also there to go for the title too and are currently the league’s two joint-top sides on 19 points.
Talysarn maintained their great form with an 8-1 demolition of struggling Penrhyndeudraeth.
A Luke Baum double (4’, 42’) either side of a Glyn Hughes-Thomas goal (14’) put the Celts in charge and 3-0 up at the break.
Jac Jones made it 4-0 on 53 mins before the visitors responded through Josh Wilson on the hour-mark.
But Celts tan riot in the later stages with Tirion Roberts (62’), Hughes-Thomas (68’), Rhodri Jones (75’) and Josh Williams (89’) all finding the back of the net to complete a resounding win.
Bethesda on the other hand came away from Amlwch Town with a 2-1 win.
The visitors found themselves in front just before the break through Benn Lundstram’s sixth goal of the season.
Dan Hughes, son of Pesda manager Mark, then put them 2-0 up on 53mins before centre back Cameron Robertson was sent off for them moments later to set up a tense last half-hour.
Daniel Howes did pull one back on the hour for Amlwch, but the visitors held on for a big three points away at Lôn Bach.
Elsewhere, Mynydd Llandegai picked up the biggest win of the day in terms of goals scored with a 9-0 drubbing of Pentraeth.
Leon Owen scored two against the club he recently transferred over to Mynydd from, with Osian Jones also at the double.
Cai Holdsworth, Aaron Davies-Thomas, Damien Smith and Jamie Whitmore were also all on the scoresheet (and an Ashley Davies own goal) as Mynydd ended a run of five straight defeats in the league in some style.
There was big win too for Nefyn United who beat Llanerchymedd 7-1 at home.
Mark Jones (35’), Llyr Pennant (39’) and Tomi Evans (49’) put Nefyn in the driving seat before Hywel Jones (59’) have Medd a glimmer of hope.
But Nefyn pressed on and helped themselves to four more goals through a Guto Sion Roberts penalty (64’), Josh Piper (72’) and Jones (84’) and Roberts (89’) again.
Llanberis also impressed as they came away from Gwalchmai with a 2-1 win.
Talented young attacker Connor Owen (35’) netted his sixth league goal of the season to put Gwalch 1-0 up at the break.
But the visitors battled back well in the second half and took their three points thanks to two quick-fire goals from Callum MacDonald (73’) and Sean McGrath (76’).
Finally, Pwllheli capitalised on Gwalch’s defeat to move on up into third place in the Premier table – coming from 2-0 down to win 3-2 away at Aberffraw.
16-year old midfielder Ywain McQuire-Jones (22’) fired Berffro ahead before fellow middle man Iolo Jones (32’) made it 2-0 at the break.
However, Pwllheli showed great heart to steal the win in the second half with Martyn Smith (52’), Carl Jones (73’) and Connor Livingstone (87’) securing a big, big victory.
