AFE’s Stars of the 2019/20 season: Kai Edwards (Prestatyn Town)

VASTLY experienced defender who was an absolute rock for JD Cymru North champions Prestatyn last season.

The 29-year-old centre back returned to Neil Gibson’s side, having previously been with the club during a loan spell from Wrexham in 2010/11. After that, he went on to win numerous honours with The New Saints, as well as playing for Neath and Connah’s Quay Nomads, before switching to Llandudno who he re-joined Prestatyn from in August 2019.

That proved to be a major transfer coup for the club as he was undoubtedly a top-flight player playing at tier-two level last season as his performances showed.

The club finished 16 points clear as champions of JD Cymru North but could not seal promotion due to ground criteria issues.

Despite that, it was a memorable campaign for the Seasiders and especially the likes of the solid Edwards who was unsurprisingly selected for the Division’s Team of the Season as the campaign came to an abrupt end due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Edwards has since moved on to Flint Town United, who were promoted from the JD Cymru North to the JD Cymru Premier in place of Prestatyn having finished as runners-up in tier two in 2019/20. He had turned out eight times in the top-flight pre-lockdown.
