NORTH Wales Coast West Division One returned with a full fixture list this weekend and, as always, provided plenty of entertainment.
Six games were played on Saturday and this is how they went …
Llanystumdwy 2-1 Cemaes Bay
In what was probably the win of the day, Stumdwy handed league-leaders Bay their first defeat of the 22/23 season.
In what was a hard-fought battle captain Kyle Williams fired the home side ahead with a superb strike from the left just after the half-hour mark.
Cemaes goalkeeper Dan Jones then did very well to save a penalty moments later to keep their hopes alive.
But, despite Bay’s best efforts, they couldn’t find a way through and Stumdwy fired in a second seven minutes from time – Daniel Rhinds with his third goal in his third league appearance of the season.
The visitors found a consolation late on when a great cross from substitute Matty O’Hara found the head of Ryan Folksman who nodded the ball down for Matty Roberts to fire home from close range.
Despite losing top scorer of last season Sion Parry to Nantlle Vale over the sunLlanystumdwy themselves are unbeaten in their opening five league matches this season – could they be a real team to keep an eye on?
Mountain Rangers 4-1 Bethesda Rovers
Another fine victory came courtesy of Rangers who picked up their first three points of the season and moved off the bottom of the table as a result.
Rovers themselves had been unbeaten until a 4-1 defeat at Cemaes Bay last week and they fell to the same scoreline again to Rangers in a second successive loss here.
It had all started brilliantly for the visitors when Lewis Owen fired them in front just seven minutes in – but Ben Davies responded on 16mins to equalise for Alex Philp’s Rangers.
A goal from Czech Republican Jan Muller made it 2-1 to the home side on 36mins to give them a half time lead.
Debutante Daniel Evans, who won the league with Llanerchymedd last season, was particularly impressive in this one as he provided assists for the first two goals and then added a goal of his own on 48mins before turning provider again for Rhys Jones just after the hour mark to complete the score line.
Midfielder Osian Price was dismissed 68mins in for Rovers on what was a difficult afternoon for them.
Trearddur Bay 4-1 Llangoed
The league favourites were back in action on a Saturday and added another win to their tally.
A frantic first half saw an Asa Thomas header (12’) and goals from Justin Williams (22’) and Ben Cafferkey (23’) put the hosts in command of the tie.
Thomas then missed a penalty on the half-hour mark before talented young attacker Dan Owen pulled one back for Llangoed before the break.
Kaine Bentley (51’) scored his sixth goal of the season for Trearddur Bay to complete the scoreline and make it five wins out of six for the unbeaten club in the league so far.
The game also featured a stunning double save from 17-year-old Llangoed keeper Aidan Griffiths who denied Thomas from the spot and then kept the rebound out also.
Holyhead Town 3-3 Caergybi
This local derby provided a fine game indeed as two Holyhead clubs shared the spoils at the ground they both share (Millbank).
16-year-old Sion Thomas was first on the scoresheet for Town (17’) before Tom Hadley equalled proceedings for Cybi on the half-hour mark following an Elliot Patterson assist.
Hadley then turned provider for midfielder Dave Webb who made it 2-1 to Cybi before the break.
Sion Thomas then turned playmaker himself immediately after the restart as Andy Will made it 2-2.
16-year-old Jack Cowhig (77’) restored Cybi’s lead but a Charlie Diamond penalty on 82mins ensured the points were shared from this thriller.
Bontnewydd 8-0 Gaerwen
A ruthless second half performance saw Bont boost their goal difference here against Gaerwen who slumped back to the bottom of the table.
Skipper Luke Phillips continued his fine form scoring his second hat-trick of the season (29’, 33, 56’) with Alex Kalafusz also scoring three (65’, 70’, 83’).
Also on the scoresheet were Sion Jones (55’) and Rhys Roberts (67’), with Meilir Rowlands also missing a penalty.
Cefni 3-2 Y Fali
Earlier this week, we wrote about Cefni’s Jamie Patterson being one to watch this season and so it proved again in this one as Cefni picked up a second successive league win.
The attacker opened the scoring on 43mins to give the home side a 1-0 half time lead at Isgraig.
Patterson then netted again on 72mins – his seventh goal in seven league appearances this season.
But Y Fali fought back well late on – veteran midfielder Simon Davies providing an assist for 16-year-old Kieran Owen on his debut (82’) before Davies scored a goal himself two minutes later to stun Cefni.
You would have thought that was enough for the visitors to snatch a draw – but you’d be wrong as Cefni found a late, late winner through defender Hugh Alan Jones.
