WAUNFAWR have enjoyed a great debut campaign in the North Wales Coast West Division One date. And one man in particular has stood out for them in the goalscoring department.

The club’s latest victory was perhaps the most impressive of their 12 league wins to date as they hammered Llanystumdwy 6-0 away at Dwyfor Park.

That win moved them up to 6th in the Division One table and it was again striker Adam Lloyd Jones who stood out most for The Beganifs.

The 27-year-old netted four of his side’s goals that day to take his tally for the season to 19 goals in just 24 appearances.

The former Caernarfon Wanderers forward has now been with Waunfawr for a decade. In every campaign he’s played for them, he’s never failed to score less than double figures in a season.

With the Wanderers, he won the Caernarfon and District League back in 2011/12 and with Waun, he lifted the Gwynedd Meditel Cup in 2016/17 – two wins he describes as career highlights.

That night with Waun at Caernarfon Town’s Oval ground, Lloyd Jones was pivotal once more as they beat Bro Goronwy 1-0. His stinging shot could only be parried into the path of Shaun Roberts (also still at Waun) who smashed the ball into the back of the net in what was the only goal of the match.

This season, Waunfawr have won 12 and drawn 3 of their 22 league matches to date.

Reflecting on how the 21/22 campaign has gone so far, Lloyd Jones said: “At the beginning of the season we won our first 5-6 games but the last few months have been disappointing – results wise.

“Hopefully, after a big win away at Llanerchymedd the other week, it will boost our confidence and we can push for a top 4 finish.

“It’s been no different than any other league or season really, just that there are more teams than previous seasons and that makes it more competitive. I’ve Not set myself any targets, I just want to go out and enjoy football with my mates.”

Talking about his Waunfawr team-mates, he added: “I wouldnt say a player has impressed me the most but the whole team has. The camaraderie and the banter we have is superb.

One of the league’s most underrated goalscorers in my opinion and one who will be up in their in the goalscoring charts come the end of the season no doubt!
