DEFENDERS don’t always get the credit they deserve but this young man has been brilliant since day one for Rangers.
Tom Philp, son of club manager Alex, first came into the spotlight as part of Rangers’ Anglesey League runners-up side of 2019/20.
That season, which was cut short by the Covid-19 pandemic, he partnered David Aaron Jones (now with Talysarn Celts) at centre back and was part of a formidable defensive set up which conceded just 16 goals in 15 league matches.
This season, with the club undergoing many changes to its squad after the campaign had started, Philp remained loyal – one of only few to do so as the club had to rebuild.
Since then, the now 19-year-old has been made Rangers captain and has put in performances beyond his young years.
Philp is also yet to miss a game for Rangers this season and is steadily forming a great partnership at the back with another great young defender, Elis Hughes, who is 18.
Rangers are now slowly but surely starting to pick up points in North Wales Coast West Division One and I’m sure Philp will have a big say in just how far up the table they can climb this season with his great leadership.
