NORTH Wales Coast West Division One league-leaders Cemaes Bay were left reeling as Llanfairpwll claimed a massive three points in Friday night’s match under the lights.
Gwyndaf Hughes and Danny Connolly’s side won 2-0 away at School Lane to move up to 5th in the league table on 28 points.
Luke Owen (below) scored first in the 51’st minute – scoring his 6th goal in 10 league matches this season.
You would probably have bet on Cemaes to fight back and go on to score next but Pwll’s defence stood strong and their efforts were rewarded with another goal right at the end.
After Josh Griffiths was sent off for Cemaes, soon after Marky Holland stepped up to convert a penalty and his 10th league goal of the season to secure a massive win for the visitors.
That was the first time that the free-scoring Cemaes had failed to score in a game since their opening day defeat to Llanerchymedd.
Pwll’s win also brought to an end a 13-game unbeaten run for Cemaes, as well as a 9-game winning streak.
On Saturday, Llanerchymedd capitalised on Bay’s misery and closed the gap at the top to just the one point in dramatic fashion with a late 1-0 win against Mountain Rangers.
The opening stages were an even affair and Rangers could have taken the lead when a Dion L Jones free kick came off the post and new signing Simon Watkinson’s shot was blocked.
The resilient Rangers back four dealt with all threats with keeper Jason Hughes having little to do in the first half.
Llanerchymedd started the second 45mins brightly but still struggled to create any clear cut chances, however, as the game progressed they showed their superior fitness and some fresh legs saw them take control of the game.
Goalkeeper Hughes made several top class saves for the Rangers and it seemed as though the game was heading for a draw.
But, Medd had other plans and Dylan Owen’s late, late strike saw them take the lead. There was still one last chance for Aled Rice to go close for Rangers even after that – but his lobbed effort landed agonisingly on top of the net.
The two sides will meet again next week in the NWCFA Junior Cup.
Cefni and Y Fali played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at Isgraig.
The visitors were ahead at the break thanks to young star Cai Miller’s goal just 10mins into the contest.
But, Cefni came out sharp in the second half and turned the tie on its head.
Macauley Lewis struck just four minutes after the restart before Hugh Jones will have thought he had possibly won the game for the home side with his goal 10mins from time making it 2-1.
However, Y Fali had the last laugh as a 94th minute penalty converted by Morgan Jones ensured that the points were shared.
Finally, Llangoed put in a spirited second half performance to come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at home to Holyhead Town.
Promising youngster Kaine Bentley popped up once more to fire the Harbourmen in front after just 20mins at Tyddyn Paun before Dan Lewis doubled the visitors advantage on 35mins.
But, Llangoed fought back well in the second half and managed to secure themselves a well-deserved draw.
Club captain Matty Owen (below) started the comeback with a great strike on 56mins before player-manager David ‘Twm’ Thomas scored just moments after coming on from the bench on 81mins.
Both sides had chances to win the match but this end-to-end encounter ended in a 2-2 draw.
