THE North Wales Coast West Division One season continued to throw up some twists and turns on Saturday afternoon.
Llangoed pulled off the win of the day as handed Caergybi their first league defeat of the 21/22 campaign with a resounding 5-2 scoreline.
A brilliant first half saw David Thomas’ side go 3-0 up thanks to 3 goals in quick succession. Close range strikes from Wayne Thomas, Deio Roberts and Aled Jones (below) – his second goal in as many matches since arriving at Llangoed – put the home side in charge after just 25mins at Tyddyn Paun before Michael Edwards pulled one back directly from a corner for Cybi before half time.
In the second half, Caergybi began to grow into the match with the likes of Michael Edwards pulling the strings for them but they still couldn’t take the chances they created for themselves. Opportunities were squandered left, right and centre before Llangoed four bud themselves a fourth goal through a well hit shot by Thomas from the edge of the box.
The visitors eventually found a second goal when Tom Hadley’s mis-hit shot found its way into the path of Gary Jo Owen who fired home for 4-2.
Caergybi pushed and pushed for more goals but again were left to rue missed opportunities. Llangoed also stood strong and goalkeeper Rhys Owen was particularly brilliant in between the sticks to keep his side two goals up whenever he faced some shots.
Substitute and debutante Sammie Williams had a glorious chance to make it 5-2 minutes from time but stand in keeper Jake Chapman stopped his attempted lob. But, fellow sub Robert Boyes completed the scoreline soon after, slamming the ball into the roof of the net after some good work down the right from Thomas.
A sensational win for Llangoed (only their second in the league this season) and one which proved they can beat anyone on their day. A shock for Cybi though, who will now look to bounce back v fellow title-chasers Llanerchymedd next weekend.

Elsewhere in the league, Bethesda Athletic capitalised on Caergybi’s misery as they moved above them into second place with a 4-3 win at a spirited Holyhead Town.
Veteran forward Ian Williams put the Harbourmen ahead early on before a Joe Todd double turned the tie around. James Ryan qualified just before half time to set up an interesting second half.
Kyle Hartleb then scored for Athletic in the 50th minute but it was all square again on the hour-mark when Town defender Ryan Heywood popped up to make it 3-3.
Hartleb’s 68th minute goal, his 11th of the season, was enough to earn Mark Hughes’ Athletic another big 3 points. Aidan Batsford was also sent off for Holyhead Town who were reduced to 10-men with five minutes to go in the tie.
Elsewhere, league leaders Llanerchymedd ended Llanystumdwy’s fine run of late as they beat them 3-0 at Dwyfor Park.
Goals from Chris Bennett, Llion Vaughan Jones and James Burgess’ 7th strike of the season ensured Medd stay top of tier five.
There was a significant milestone for one Stumdwy player on the day also as midfielder and captain Kyle Williams (below) marked his 421st appearance for the club. That took him up to joint-third in the all time appearances list for the club (along with Keith Hughes). Da Iawn Kyle!
Finally, Waunfawr picked up a big win of their own, beating Y Fali 6-0.
It was a day to forget for the visitors, being led by new manager Si Thomas for the first time as first half goals from Aled Pritchard (6’) and Adam Jones (30’) were followed up by strikes from Pritchard again (55’), skipper Guto Llywelyn (66’), Ioan Gwynedd (83’) and Cai Ditchburn (90’) as the Beganifs ran riot.
