VERY FEW players can take to senior football the way this young man did for Llangoed in 2019/20.

Sam Gregson may only be turning 18 years old today but he has already made an impact in the game on Anglesey (and beyond) and is regarded by many as one of the region’s next big things.

The central midfielder burst onto the scene with the Tyddyn Paun outfit in the Gwynedd League during a season cut short by the coronavirus pandemic.

Back in early September 2019, just days after he turned 16, Gregson made his debut for Llangoed – who were managed by former Welsh Premier player Mark Thomas (now at Bethesda Athletic) at the time.

There had been talks of him being the one to watch at Llangoed that season and so it proved to be as he enjoyed a phenomenal first season in what was his first in men’s football.

Gregson popped up with nine goals that season and helped Llangoed onto an eighth place finish in what was a tough division at that time.

That, in turn, saw the Caernarfon Town academy player attract plenty of interest from other clubs all over North Wales, and he eventually opted to sign for Ricky Williams’ Bodedern Athletic side ahead of the 21/22 campaign.

Gregson’s last goal for Llangoed before moving to the green and white army came on n June 26 in a 2-2 friendly draw against Mynydd Llandegai. It was a wonderful volleyed finish into the bottom corner to rescue a late point for Llangoed.

Upon moving to Boded, he has continued to show real signs of promise in a squad which is packed full of real quality in the North Wales Coast Premier.

Gregson, who is sponsored by AFEFootballNews this season, has so far made six appearances for Boded – scoring five times. He bagged a hat-trick in the 11-0 FAW Welsh Cup demolition of Bodorgan and also scored in 4-1 win over Amlwch Town and 4-0 win at Aberffraw.

His manager Williams has hailed the midfielder as a “player who has it all” and that has been clear to see in the confidence he has shown and the quality of his performances for both Llangoed and Boded during his short but glistening career in senior football to date.

Sam, whose 16-year-old brother Harry is now in the men’s game playing as a midfielder for Llangoed just as he once was, has also scored 2 goals in 3 matches for the Caernarfon Town Development team this season.

He’s a player who can go all the way to the top in my opinion as he controls the tempo of the game and middle of the park so well for someone so young. Certainly a player to keep an eye on in coming years.

Happy birthday Sam, the team at AFEFootballNews hope you have a great day!
