THEY said it wouldn’t take him long to be back and so it has proved.

Just weeks after Arriva Bangor folded, long-serving manager and founder of that club Kevin Jones is back in the game as assistant manager of Waunfawr FC.

During his many years with the Busmen, Jones took the club from being a Sunday League side made up of (mainly) bus drivers to winning cups at Saturday league level.

The club was formed in 2013 and won the Sunday League Cup two years later.

Known as ‘Mr Arriva’, Jones then guided the club to a cup double in their first season in the Anglesey League in 2017/18, winning the Elias Cup and Benllech Car Boot Trophy. The season after they retained the Carboot Trophy against the formidable Bryngwran Bulls.

Now, he is set for a new challenge in North Wales Coast Division One with Waunfawr alongside club manager Steven ‘Lilly’ Hughes.

The club kicked off a new life in tier five with a 3-1 win at Bethesda on July 3.

Looking forward to the new chapter in his coaching career, Jones said: “Looking forward to my new challenge as an assistant manager with Waunfawr where I’m sure I will grow and learn more off Steven, he is a quality manager with loads of experience.

“Waun have a Cracking group of lads that play really good footie and have given me a fantastic welcome. Massive change after running Arriva on my own for 8 years.”

Waunfawr manager Hughes added: “I’m delighted to have Kevin here at Waunfawr and I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead. It’s mine, Kevin and the players chance to start the season right!”
