LLANGOED Football Club have confirmed that they will be entering a Reserves team into the North Wales Coast Reserves League for the 21/22 campaign.
The first team will play in the newly-formed North Wales Coast West Division One (tier five) alongside 15 other clubs whilst the Reserves will play in their respective divisions expected to be made up of around 10 teams.
News of plans for a second string broke at Tyddyn Paun last week.
The club last had a Reserves team in place in the 2017/18 Anglesey League campaign – a season after the firsts had been promoted to the Gwynedd League. But, despite some success on the field, the side did not last more than one season.
Now though, Llangoed Reserves are back and it is hoped that the side will act as a stepping stone for some of the club’s talented young players to earn both experience and confidence before moving on up to the senior side – as well as potentially giving some first team players game time when they have not been playing.
At the helm of the team are myself, Arron Evans, and Alex Clarke – who was my assistant at Llandegfan Football Club. With Llandeg folding two weeks ago, we felt this move made the most sense for the two of us and would allow us to carry on progressing on our coaching journey.
Personally, I’m very much looking forward to get going properly with this side as there are several great players involved already and a few more that I and Alex will be bringing along with us for the ride.
It’s quite fitting that I’ve ended up at Llangoed Reserves really as, when I made my playing debut for Llandeg back in September 2017, it was against them!
My official statement was as follows: “I’m really looking forward to being part of this club which has such a great history and has so many great people involved in it too.
“After Llandegfan folded, I was approached by a few clubs but Llangoed had always been in the back of my mind due to where I live and due to the great work going on there both on and off the field.
“It’s all happened so quickly really and although I’m very disappointed with Llandeg having to fold, I had to move on and be involved somewhere as football is my greatest passion. This is an opportunity that excites me and I’m looking forward to working alongside all the players at the club as well as the first team coaches and the committee.
“I hope I can do my bit to help the club keep progressing as it has been doing over the past few years.“I’d like to thank the club for showing faith in both me and Alex and welcoming us on board.”
Our first friendly will see us take on CPD Y Fali at Cae Mwd on Saturday, June 12 (11.30am kick off due to Wales’ EURO 2020 campaign kicking off that afternoon).
As I understand it, the North Wales Coast Reserves League currently looks this (But there may be one or two other clubs also signing on before the closing date for applications) …
