IT’S VERY rare these days that football journalists like myself get to write a match report.
However, thanks to a bit of on-field action earlier tonight, I can at last bring you a quick review.
It was a memorable evening for JD Cymru North outfit Bangor City as they scored two goals in the last ten minutes to beat reigning JD Cymru Premier champions Connah’s Quay Nomads 2-1 at Nantporth.
City started off in great fashion – talented playmaker Giacomo Mello running the show in the middle. Centre back Lucas Surber made an important block 20 minutes in to deny the visitors a goalscoring opportunity.
With half an hour on the clock, Mello was again dangerous – combining well with Dante Isla and the former seeing his good effort saved well by Nomads keeper …
But, it was the visiting side who would eventually take the lead just before half time – Johnny Hunt scoring straight from a corner.

But the game was far from over as brave Bangor battled back in the second half to claim a great win.
The Citizens were nearly level just two minutes after the restart when some great link-up play from Alex Boss, Isla and Mello saw the latter’s effort drag just wide.
The introduction of Robbie Parry for Nicholas Nasini at half time had seemed to pump even more energy into the home side who eventually found the leveller.
That came with eight minutes to go. Mello quickly played in Boss who got in behind the defence to cross and find Isla who headed home for 1-1.
Four minutes later, City were ahead and it was Boss once again who proved to be the star man. Parry’s deflected shot fell to the feet of the winger who curled the ball in with the outside of his foot to secure the win.
Overall, I’m sure Bangor City boss Hugo Colace will be delighted with that performance by his side as they seemed to be in control for the majority of the match and got their just reward in the end.

A tough match for a fairly weakened Nomads side, who also suffered a few injuries during the 90 mins including to attacker Jamie Insall.
The two sides were allowed to square off against one another in the behind closed doors friendly as they are both classed as ‘professional’ sides and covid-19 guidelines were adhered to throughout.
They are also both set to return to action in their respective divisions next month, should Covid-19 restrictions be lifted.
