MENTION this man’s name in the Anglesey footballing circle, and in fact over the bridge too, and I’m sure most people will have great things to say about him.
Taylor, who turned 30 just last week, is for many one of the greatest footballers to have played on Anglesey during the last decade or so.
Despite spending most of his youth years playing for clubs in Shropshire and also playing for Shrewsbury Town’s academy for a spell, the striker-turned-defender spent most of his adult career playing for clubs in North Wales.
Taylor turned out for the likes of Porthmadog and Caernarfon Town, who he captained, as well as Glantraeth, Pentraeth, Holyhead Hotspur and Llangefni Town during his time in the region.
He is best known on the Anglesey footballing scene for his incredible campaign with Pentraeth in 2012/13 – when he netted a formidable 58 goals as a forward for the Bryniau Fields club.
Injuries later in his career forced Taylor to convert to playing as a central defender, although this too has proved to be a wise move for him.
In 2018, he signed for English side Bromsgrove Sporting, who play in the Southern League Premier Division Central, and he still plays for to this day.
In 2019, Taylor was a huge influence at the back for the Ynys Môn men’s side which went on to win gold medals at the Inter Island Games football tournament on home soil. He previously captained that side in Gotland two years earlier also.
He also represented Wales in the UEFA Regions Cup with the North Wales Coast side back in 2014/15, alongside a number of other Anglesey-based players including Dewi Thomas, Dan Thomas and Matthew Jones. A talented Coast side claimed Wales’ first-ever win in the finals when they defeated Northern Estonia 3-1.
A tall and commanding centre half, Taylor has shown his class down the years on Anglesey and in Gwynedd and is held in high regard by many.
