AFE’s Stars of the 2019/20 season: Andy Coughlin (Colwyn Bay)

THE best keeper in the JD Cymru North last season, if we’re going off the Team of the Season and performances in general!

Coughlin was fantastic for the Bay as they finished fourth in the tier two table upon their return to the Welsh pyramid system.

The 28-year-old, who joined the Seagulls from Bangor City in September 2018, was an influential figure at the back for the club in 2019/20, picking up nine clean sheets and missing just one match.

That sort of form saw him pick up the Players Player of the season prize as the season came to an abrupt end.

Two of the highlights of his season came when he saved last minute penalties on two separate occasions (in 1-0 wins over both Ruthin Town and Llanrhaeadr YM) to secure three points in both games for his side and clean sheets for himself.

Coughlin also kept a clean sheet in the club’s incredible Welsh Cup win over then-Cymru Premier side Airbus UK and his performances during the season twice saw him voted SoccerMillion Man of the Match by Bay fans.

The former Wrexham and England C keeper is now on 46 appearances for Colwyn Bay and is quickly establishing himself as one of the best number one’s around.
