AFE’s Stars of the 2019/20 season: Mark Cadwallader (Flint Town United)

ONE of the real standout stars in the Cymru North (tier two) last season.

Come the end of the season, runners-up Flint were promoted in place of champions Prestatyn Town who couldn’t not seal a license to be able to play in Wales’ top-flight.

And lively forward Cadwallader was a huge factor in getting the Silkmen up to second place in the Cymru North table last season.

Over recent seasons, the player has played a significant part in the club’s rise from relegation fighters to promotion heroes under Niall McGuinness, who was recently let go by the club.

Cadwallader was the overall second top scorer for the Cymru North last season (only Corrig McGonigle of Conwy Borough was ahead of him) as he netted 23 goals in all competitions and once again showed why he was one of the best players playing outside of Wales’ top-flight.

That sort of form earned him the Supporters Player of the Season prize come the end of the 2019/20 campaign and he had also picked up a few Cymru North Player of the Month prizes during the course of the season also.

This season however the 32-year-old has been proving his worth in the JD Cymru Premier after the club were promoted at the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

Despite Flint struggling overall in the competition, results have began to improve recently, with the club gradually moving up to ninth place (out of 12 teams) pre-lockdown.

Cadwallader has again been one of the star men for the Silkmen, picking up four goals and two assists in 15 matches so far.

A top, top player who deserves to be playing at the highest level of football in Wales.
