TOPPING the season this forward had in 2018/19 would have been fairly impossible for anyone as he racked up a record-breaking 74 goals for Caergybi in the Anglesey League.
For many a year now, James Ryan has been a prolific goal-getter on the island but that particular season set him apart from any other forward in the league’s history as he just couldn’t stop scoring for Dale Moffat’s side who were promoted to the Gwynedd League in just their second season as a club.
Having hit 56 goals for Bryngwran Bulls in 2017/18, Ryan made the switch to rivals Cybi who would win a cup double against the Bulls in two finals in 2018/19 – with Ryan on the scoresheet in one of those finals.
In their first campaign in the GL last season, Ryan proved to be their main man again early on as he netted 11 for the club before transferring to Sean Brett’s Glantraeth for a new challenge once more midway through the season. There, he scored four goals before the season was cut short due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
The lethal forward, who turns 34 today, has just recently signed for tier 5 club Holyhead Town , who he netted two on his debut for in ‘pre-season. There’s no doubt that The Harbourmen have secured a fantastic signing there!
