GOOD NEWS stories don’t come much better than this one.
Danny Gosset, a much-loved and respected figure within the North Wales football community, has signed a new contract with Cymru Premier side Bala Town after beating cancer.
The midfielder was diagnosed with B-Cell Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in August 2019, having initially suffered from a dull ache in his hip. After undergoing several course of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, the 25-year-old was given the all-clear in January of this year.
Gosset, who is from Y Felinheli just outside Bangor, signed for The Lakesiders in 2018, having had a very successful spell at Bangor City on a personal level. He became a fans favourite at Nantporth, just as he has done at Maes Tegid since making the switch there.
A talented player, Gosset has also represented the likes of Rhyl and TNS in the past, as well Oldham Athletic in the English Football League. He has also represented the Cymru C side.
Speaking on Gosset staying with The Lakesiders for the 2020/21 season, Bala Town manager Colin Caton said: “Danny Gosset has had the all-clear after having a scan and speaking to his specialist at Gobowen Hospital last week. As he’s had this tremendous news, he can now resume normal training, however because his leg has been out of use for so long he’s got to get the rehab back into his femur.
“He’s got to build his leg muscle up and he’s hoping to be competitive once the pre-season games are here, however if he doesn’t make the first pre-season games he’ll definitely, all being well, be fit for the start of the season which will be a massive relief for everybody concerned. The muscles have grown back well and it’s brilliant to have him back.
“Everybody has stuck by him, his strength and his belief carried the lads to such a good season aswell. We all had a great bond and it’s fantastic to have him with us and it’s going to be like having a brand new signing. It’s great that he’s going to be available for this season.
“I can’t wait to work with him again and I am really looking forward to that. I’m expecting big things from Danny and what a story it’s going to be when he gets back out on that pitch.”
Truly fantastic news and a real touch of class from Bala who have done everything they can to support the player during a very difficult period. It’s going to be great seeing him step foot back on the pitch soon!
