AFE’s Gwynedd League Player of the Season for 2019/20 is …

I’M SURE this one won’t come as a surprise to many but nevertheless pleased to announce that my GL Player of the Season for 2019/20 is Bangor 1876 wonderkid Dylan Summers-Jones.

In what can be regarded as his first full season in senior football, DSJ (below) has hit an incredible 41 goals for 1876 – who were crowned champions of the division last week after picking up 16 wins out of a possible 16 and scoring 115 goals in the process.

Summers-Jones, who only turned 18 years old on May 31, has been in inspired form throughout the campaign and the forward’s goals record in the division alone is phenomenal, with two goals on his debut in a 4-1 win over Ogwen Tigers setting the precedent for what would be a terrific season for the promising youngster.

His full goals record in the GL is as follows (result of match in brackets):

AUGUST
2x v Ogwen Tigers (1-4)
3 x v Caergybi (10-0)

OCTOBER
4x v Llanerchymedd (12-0)
3x v Bethesda Athletic (14-0)

DECEMBER
2x c Trearddur Bay Bulls (1-2)
2x v Caergybi (0-6)
1x v Llanystumdwy (6-0)
5x v Bontenwydd (13-2)

JANUARY

1x v Glantraeth (0-4)
1x v Waunfawr (4-0)
2x v Ogwen Tigers (7-0)
1x v Bethesda Athletic (2-10)

FEBRUARY
4x v Llanystumdwy (11-0)

A further ten goals in other cup competitions put Summers-Jones on a tally of 41 goals for the season. Not bad at all for a player who has just turned 18 last weekend.

He’s thoroughly deserving of the title of Player of the Season in my opinion and I’m sure that he will go on to play at the very highest level of Welsh football (and possibly even the English league system) should this kind of form continue in future.

For now though, he’s 1876’s main goal scoring threat and I’m sure they’ll use him to their advantage once more in 2020/21!
