NOT many people in North Wales can say they own a World Cup winners medal (if any at all in fact) – except one man who recently achieved the impossible.

Goalkeeper John Pritchard, who plays for Amlwch Football Club’s Walking Football Team (above), recently represented Wales’ over 60’s national side – who won their respective World Cup tournament.

The team, made up of players from sides around Wales, beat France in the final to win the inaugural World Cup competition for international walking football teams, which was held at Leyton Orient’s Matchroom Stadium in London last weekend.

It was an incredible achievement for Anglesey’s very own John and his team mates who played nine matches of 15-20 minutes duration and saw off competition from the likes of Australia, England and Spain on their way to lifting the Cup.

Here’s the very impressive bit on John’s part however – HE DIDN’T CONCEDE A SINGLE GOAL in the whole tournament and as such, scooped the Golden Glove Award (above) for his phenomenal efforts.

Some of his Amlwch FC Walking Football team mates representing the Over 50’s squad (Alan Whiston, Richard Jones, Steve Roberts and Alan Carter) narrowly missed out on glory of their own as they were beaten on penalties by France in their respective competition.

Congratulations to John and all of the Over 50’s members for their efforts, you’ve certainly put not only Wales, but your tiny little island on the map too.

Our very own World Cup Heroes!
