NWCFA Junior Cup (Round Two)
Bryngwran Bulls 2-0 Mynydd Tigers
The old rivals met again on Saturday afternoon and it was The Bulls who came out on top after a fine performance.
Having played each other five times last season (including in two cup finals), the two sides met for the first time this year following Mynydd’s promotion to the Gwynedd League in the summer.
It was the “underdog” who got the win in this encounter however in what was a convincing performance. Two goals in quick succession in the first half from winger Ioan Thomas (his fourth and fifth in three games) were enough to see Bryngwran progress.
Denbigh Dev. 1-6 Menai Tigers
One Tiger was tamed in the cup, but the other wasn’t as Menai Tigers’ unbeaten run continued with a routine victory at Denbigh Development.
Goals from Dave Baston (2), Sam Roberts, Callum Davidson, a smart free-kick from Sion Hogan and a strike from top scorer Dean Redmond saw them through to the last 16 of the competition, where they will now begin to fancy their chances.
Bodorgan 4-6 Rhuddlan Town (AET)
This was arguably the tie of the round in terms of not knowing which way it was going to end.
Anglesey League side Bod took the lead four times in the game thanks to goals from Luke Allaway (2), Aron Edwards and Jordan Rossi. The thrilling encounter ended up going into extra time but in the end it was Vale of Clwyd and Conwy Premier side Rhuddlan who found a way into the last 16.
Llandudno Athletic 2-1 Caergybi
In what was a fairly surprising result on Saturday, Caergybi crashed out of the cup at Llandudno Athletic’s Oval ground thanks to a 2-1 defeat.
Having beaten them there in the same tournament last season, Dale Moffat’s side would have fancied there chances again this time around. However, it’s fair to say that this Athletic side looked stronger.
The home side started off very well but found themselves heading into half time 1-0 down thanks to a goal from Dave Webb giving Cybi the advantage.
In the second half though, Athletic fought back well. Substitute Ash McKinstrey was the hero of the day – scoring twice – once from a rebound and the other from a corner to send his side through.

ANGLESEY LEAGUE

Pentraeth Reserves 0-4 Cefni
The Reserves fell to a surprising defeat at home to a determined Cefni side on Saturday afternoon. Having shocked Arriva Bangor last weekend, Danny Jones side would have been fancied to take three points in this one, however, the visitors rocked up in a fighting mood.
Two goals early on from striker Nathan Lewis put the visitors in the driving seat as Pentraeth struggled to get going. It was 3-0 before half time when Lewis stepped up to take a penalty and, despite a retake, converted his second attempt to complete his first hat-trick for the club.
Cefni continued to press in the second half but had to wait awhile before making it 4-0 – it was certainly worth the wait however. Left Back Gary Winnard broke free down the wing and beat three players before cutting inside and burying the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the goal.
It was another well-earned three points for Cefni who are having a debut season to remember.

GWYNEDD LEAGUE
Glantraeth 5-5 Waunfawr
These two sides shared the spoils in what was undoubtedly the game of the weekend in terms of entertainment.
The visitors took the lead early on thanks to a goal from Shaun Roberts but Glan’s top scorer Andy Clarke hit back swiftly to make it 1-1. Waunfawr then took the lead again through Roberts once more only for it to once again be cancelled out when Liam McCann struck for 2-2. The home side then took the lead before half time when Dylan Hughes scored to put them 3-2 up.
The game was far from over though and the second half proved to be just as chaotic. It went to 3-3 thanks to a goal from Elis Povey before Glantraeth’s Dion Williams was sent off just after the hour mark.
However, that didn’t stop them from the taking the lead once again through the lively Jamie Roberts who made it 4-3. Soon after though it was 4-4 through Shaun Roberts’ hat-trick and then 5-4 to Waunfawr when Meurig Parry scored. A crazy game of football finally concluded when Roberts netted his second for Glantraeth to make it 5-5 and end a memorable Gwynedd League match up.
