JUST the one fixture played in the Kon-X Anglesey league this weekend, but eleven goals were featured.

Bryngwran Bulls tie with Llandegfan was called off, but Arriva Bangor enjoyed an emphatic 11-0 victory against Pentraeth Reserves to remain in fifth place after playing ten games.

Kevin Jones’ side took the lead on 10 minutes when Matthew Williams lobbed the keeper from 35 yards out. The Busmen doubled their advantage soon after as Kyle Jones cut inside from the wing to finish.

Andy Clarke continued his fine form of late by adding four goals of his own and fellow striker Scott Hughes hit five to take his tally to 28 for the season – making him the highest scoring player in the division.

The victory sees Arriva keep the pressure on the league’s so-called “Big Four” and keeps them safely in fifth place in what has been a great debut campaign for them in the Anglesey League. Justin Gallagher’s Reserves on the other hand remain in seventh with seven points on the board.

Elsewhere, a spirited Mynydd Tigers side beat Bodorgan 6-2 in the Quarter Finals of the Huws Gray Megan Cup.

Kieron Bullock, Tom Eames and skipper Mike Williams all bagged a brace each for the home side before Luke Allaway pulled two back for the visitors.

Mynydd have now scored 27 goals in their past three matches and have had nine 16/17 year old’s play for their side this season after handing Kyle Hartley his debut on Saturday.

Mynydd manager Mark Hughes described his side’s win as “An excellent overall performance which continues the unbeaten start to 2018.”

Valley Athletic progressed to the fourth round of the prestigious North Wales Coast Junior Cup with a convincing 6-0 win over Vale of Clwyd & Conwy League side Rhyl Rovers.

Following a quiet first half, it was the Anglesey League side who headed into the break with a narrow 1-0 lead, courtesy of a Marc Wilson goal.

The second half proved to be a lot more entertaining. Mark Hamblin made it 2-0 before Justin Williams (who had assisted the first two goals) looped a shot over the keeper to make it 3-0.

The in-form Williams then made it 4-0 soon after and Konner Druce pounced onto a mishit shot from Mike Williams for 5-0 before Rovers went down to 10 men.

Justin Williams completed his hat-trick and the scoreline of 6-0 when strike partner Mike Williams went one on one with the Rovers keeper before unselfishly squaring to Justin to finish.

Valley through to the next round then and they’ll be hoping to keep representing the Anglesey League for as long as possible in the competition that features teams from higher division’s and other leagues across the Coast.

Rivals Caergybi are the only other Anglesey League side left in the NWCFA Junior Cup and they will take on Gwynedd League side Bontnewydd next Saturday afternoon.

The following fixtures will also take place next Saturday:

Lucas Oil Dargie Cup (Semi-final)

Valley Athletic v Bryngwran Bulls

  1. When Llandegfan play Mynydd next week don’r make the same mistake Bodorgan did in the first half. Bodorgan played 442 against their 352 and they just passed bodorgan off the park and dominated possession, giving Bod the run around. Llandegfan need to go 3511 and just ‘get into their midfield’ and ‘up close’ to deny Mynydd space and time, work really hard at it. They can slice any team up if allowed to. That playing surface caught Bod out too (it is so different) and when Bod matched them after half time it was like night and day. Luke should have scored 4! Bod could have been a lot closer if this issue had been rectified sooner. Good luck..

    1. Cheers for the advice Dave! We’ll have to pull a real surprise out of the bag if we’re to have any chance of getting anything to be honest but never say never. Just looking forward to starting again next season now!
