TWO games on and two games off this weekend as weather continued to wreak havoc with the Anglesey League’s fixture list.
In what was supposed to be a Saturday full of Huws Gray Megan Cup action, Bryngwran Bulls’ match against Llangoed Reserves was called off and Mynydd Tigers v Bodorgan was arranged for another date.
Twelve goals were scored in the two matches that DID take place however. This is how the double header at Bangor’s 3G pitch panned out …
Arriva Bangor 4-1 Pentraeth Reserves
In the afternoon kick-off at Bangor City’s 3G facilities, Kevin Jones’ Arriva side progressed to the semi-final’s of the Megan Cup with a fairly comfortable win over Justin Gallagher’s Reserves side.
Arriva’s prolific forward Scott Hughes continued his fine form, scoring two as he took his tally for the season to 23 goals in all competitions.
Kyle Jones and Andy Clarke added the other for the home side and pacey forward Jack Diamond hit a consolation goal for the visitors.
Arriva have been in good spirits in recent weeks and have really picked up the pace, piling the pressure onto the Kon-X Anglesey League’s so called “top four”. Their progression to the semi-final’s of this tournament is a sign of things to come in the near future for the club I think.
Pentraeth Reserves on the other hand will be looking to bounce back next week but face a tough trip to an ever-improving Bodorgan side in the Bwlch Car Boot Cup.
Caergybi 7-0 Llandegfan
Caergybi set up a semi-final clash with Arriva Bangor after an impressive second half performance against Llandegfan in the evening kick off at the 3G pitch.
The home side for the day raced into a 2-0 lead in the opening ten minutes of the match as Ashley Beck netted a very early brace.
Llandegfan lifted their spirits after that goal though and defended well to keep the scoreline the same up to half time with the likes of Geraint Roberts, Dale Rowlands and Matt Roberts playing well. Jordan Love’s side even had a couple of chances to pull one back, with forward Ryan Hughes going closest.
Two minutes into the second half Beck completed his hat-trick with an outrageous chip over Llandegfan goalkeeper Hywel Hughes who could only stand and watch.
Richard Argyle made it 4-0 on 50 minutes before Kon-X Anlgesey League top scorer Gary Jo Owen netted five minutes later to make it five.
Owen had the chance to double his tally on the hour after he was deemed to have been fouled in the box, much to the dismay of the Llandegfan subs and management team. However, justice was restored for them as Hywel Hughes kept out the penalty with a fine low save to deny Owen.
Soon after though Beck was at it again as he hit his fourth goal of the night before Scott Pettersen completed the 7-0 rout.
After the match, Caergybi manager Dale Moffat was full of praise for the opposition, stating that the scoreline did not do the game justice. “The game was not as one-sided as the scoreline suggested.” he said.
“Llandegfan always looked dangerous on the break with their two fast strikers who kept our defence busy at times. We would like to wish Llandegfan good luck for the rest of the season and thank them for a good spirited match.”
Caergybi march on into the semi-final’s then thanks to a no-nonsense performance and will fancy their chances of winning some silverware. Llandegfan’s new signings: Dave Lee, Josh Bailey, Craig Childes and Faisal Mbabaali seem to be fitting in well. Surely it’s only a matter of time before the club starts seeing results go more in their favour.
