Kon-X Anglesey League: Match Reviews 30/09/17.

The Kon-X Anglesey League once again threw up some entertainment, lots of goals and even a bit of controversy this weekend.

Bodorgan faced Pentraeth Reserves with both teams looking to earn their first three points of the season, whilst Llangoed and Dist. Reserves looked to make it three wins on the bounce against Caergybi.

So, whilst the Bryngwran Bulls squad enjoyed a weekend off, the other eight teams were battling it out for victory and this is how the fixtures panned out …

Arriva Bangor’s woes continued as Mynydd Tigers returned to the top of the Anglesey League table with a fine display.

Adam Evans was the hat-trick hero for Mynydd and his goals alongside strikes from Herbie Hofsteede, Tomos Eames and Sean Edwards were enough to see out this convincing win.

Ben Hulse scored on his debut for Arriva and a solid performance from the home side’s goalkeeper, Dion Lewis, kept the score down to a somewhat respectable level.

The move from Saturday League to Anglesey League football has certainly seen Arriva take a bit of a hit and they have lost all three of their matches since switching.

Now, club manager Kevin Jones is interested in bringing in players to add some healthy competition and strengthen his side. Any local footballers interested in signing for the side should get in touch with Kevin on 07500117983.

Mynydd Tigers on the other hand are on a roll and look as though they could even go on to win the league this year in what is their debut campaign. They’ll face strong competition from the likes of Valley, Bryngwran Bulls and Caergybi, but a very good start to the season has put them in good stead.

Bodorgan 2 v 3 Pentraeth Reserves

As expected, this bottom of the table clash threw up a thrilling encounter between two sides who were battling to earn their first three points of the season.

Bodorgan, who are bottom of the league, raced into a 2-0 lead early on thanks to goals from Jordan Williams and Luke Alloway and looked as though they may have been heading towards a first win of the campaign.

Unfortunately for them however, Pentraeth Reserves responded in the perfect manner, by not giving up and clawing their way back into the match.

A brace from John Morton (his first goals for the club) and a goal from Jack Diamond were enough for the away side to turn the game on its head and condemn Bodorgan to their fifth consecutive loss.

After the match, Pentraeth Reserves manager Justin Gallagher said: “Football is a cruel game sometimes but I feel the better team won overall.

“The come back spirit is exactly what we were missing last weekend against Llandegfan, so was good to see. Congratulations to John Morton on scoring his first goals for the club too.”

Bodorgan remain bottom of the league having lost all five of their matches to date. Meanwhile, Pentraeth Reserves climb up to sixth with this win, gaining four points from the six matches that they have played.

Llandegfan 0 v 10 Valley Athletic

Llandegfan were brought crashing back down to Earth after their win last weekend as far more experienced Valley Athletic side hit double figures past them.

Goals from Dave Webb and George Hibbert alongside four strikes from Gary Owen and a brace each from Justin and Mike Williams was enough to do the damage to a Llandegfan side who have now conceded 67 goals in just seven matches this season.

That said, it was always going to be tough for them against a far more experienced side such as Valley and it has to be said that everyone out on the pitch gave their all for the home side and I have no doubts that other games will prove to be more evenly matched just like at Pentraeth last week.

It may have rained goals in this one, but it was the antics on the pitch that attracted the most unwanted attention on Saturday afternoon however.

One of the Valley players (who will remain nameless) was accused of hurling abuse/swearing on a constant basis throughout the game and this has since brought on many a complaint from supporters who attended the match.

According to a status posted by Llandegfan FC on Facebook “Investigations are on going to the situations which happened both on and off the pitch.”

With this win, Valley Athletic jump up into second place in the table on 18 points, just one point behind league leaders Mynydd Tigers and with a game in hand over them. Llandegfan drop one place to seventh but remain ahead of Arriva Bangor and Bodorgan who are still without any points.

Llangoed & District Reserves 3 v 2 Caergybi.

This result was probably the most surprising one of the weekend.

Caergybi went 1-0 up thanks to a goal from Kurt Harris who scored from outside the box. It could have been two just moments later when a free kick from Dewi Thomas had Konner Druce looping a header into the Llangoed goal, but it was ruled offside due to another player infringing.

Llangoed then replied with a fine equaliser from Matty Owen just before half time – smashing a left footed free kick in to the top corner.

In the second half, Arwyn Morris made it nine goals in his last three matches as he pressed the Caergybi goalkeeper and stole the ball of him to put Llangoed in front.

Caergybi swiftly levelled once again though after some good one touch passing through the home side’s defence and a great cross by Ashley Beck, allowed Dewi Thomas to finish with a powerful volley. 2-2 and the game was full of chances.

On 79 minutes, Arwyn Morris saw his shot saved but the rebound fell to Wayne Thomas who followed in to score the winner.

Caergybi had their chances to equalise once more but Llangoed goalkeeper Lee Heywood pulled off an incredible save in the dying minutes of the match to earn himself the Man of the Match award.

Much was made of Llangoed and District Reserves having fielded many of their first team players during the match. However, manager Dewi Williams explained:

“With the Talysarn Celts v Llangoed (first team) match postponed we thought we’d give some first team players a game.

“Despite what some people have been saying though, we only had three first team players start the game and two on the bench. One of them had just came back from injury and another had a steel plate in his leg and just needed some minutes on the pitch.”

Llangoed and District Reserves have now won their past three games are in high spirits, whilst Caergybi have made a good start to the season too, currently sitting in third place in the table.
