AFTER another topsy-turvy weekend of Kon-X Anglesey League football, it’s time to look forward to the next set of fixtures taking place on Saturday afternoon.
Bryngwran Bulls will have a weekend off this time around as the odd number of teams (9) in the league currently allows one team to do this each week.
But what can we expect to see from the other eight sides? AFEFootballNews brings you the lowdown right here …
Newcomers Arriva Bangor FC are taking on top-of-the-table Mynydd Tigers at Treborth and to be honest it’s hard to see anything other than a win for the Tigers here as they’ve been dominant so far this season.
Arriva have played two games since their arrival in the Anglesey League and have lost both of those. However, last weekend’s performance against a high-flying Bryngwran Bulls side, although they lost 4-2, proved that they have what it takes to put the pressure on teams and know how to score some goals.
The Tigers on the other hand have been unstoppable at times this season, scoring goals for fun, and it looks as though they can possibly even go on to win the league. Aside from their 6-2 defeat at Bryngwran two weeks ago, they’ve played some great football.
They have a strong squad too and the addition of former Caernarfon Town youth player, Herbie Hofsteede has been a particularly beneficial one to their side. Captain Mike Williams has been another bright spark in the side.
Prediction: Mynydd Tigers Win.
Basement side Bodorgan will be welcoming fellow strugglers Pentraeth Reserves to Cae Cob, in what could potentially be the most entertaining match of the weekend.
Both teams are currently winless and will be desperate for those first three points of the campaign to fire them up the table.
Bodorgan have lost all four of their opening games of the campaign and were beaten 5-0 at home by Llangoed last weekend. Meanwhile, Pentraeth Reserves have found it difficult too, claiming just one point so far (against Mynydd Tigers).
Hard one to predict this one, but as there aren’t many draws in the Anglesey League (just one so far this season), I’d say there will be a winner here. I’ll go with Pentraeth Reserves to sneak it, as although they lost to Llandegfan last weekend, they did still show glimpses of playing well together.
Prediction: Pentraeth Reserves win.
Speaking of Llandegfan, they are taking on Valley Athletic at Lon Ty Newydd this Saturday.
After picking up a surprising but well-deserved first win of the season at Pentraeth Reserves last Saturday, Llandeg will be looking to cause an upset against a Valley side who enjoyed some time off last weekend.
The likelihood of that is pretty unlikely on paper of course, but you can see that this Llandegfan side are growing in confidence week on week at the moment and are playing well together too. They defended excellently at times against Pentraeth on Saturday and their new found strike partnership of Jordan Love and Dale Rowlands worked well too.
Valley are an experienced side in the Anglesey League however and are currently flying high, as they will no doubt be looking to become champions and earn promotion to the Gwynedd League come the end of the season.
I’ll go for a Valley win in this one, but I do believe that Llandegfan won’t be the pushovers that they once were at the start of the season.
Prediction: Valley Athletic win.
Finally, Llangoed & District Reserves will host Caergybi at home.
The home side have won their past two games now and have climbed up to sixth in the table thanks to a 3-2 win over Llandegfan and a 5-0 routing of Bodorgan. Their prolific forward, Arwyn Morris, scored all eight of their goals in those two matches and so they will no doubt be turning to him once again for the goals.
Caergybi may have lost a somewhat crucial match against Mynydd Tigers over the weekend, but you have to applaud them for the way that they have played so far in what is their debut season in the Anglesey League.
Up until last Saturday, they were in fine form and have a flurry of attacking talent available to them. The likes of Elliot Patterson, Dewi Thomas and Konner Druce have been fantastic at times this season and have helped this Caergybi side keep the pressure on the likes of Valley, Mynydd Tigers and Bryngwran Bulls at the top of the table.
Prediction: Llangoed will be in high spirits, but I think Caergybi will be too strong. They should bounce back from last week and win this one.
I’m expecting yet another goal-filled weekend of Anglesey League football when it all kicks off on Saturday afternoon!
