7 reasons why Leicester CAN win the Premier League!

An article, I never in a million years thought I’d be writing before the start of the 2015/16 Premier League season, to say the least.

But in a remarkable turn of events, notorious underdogs Leicester City are currently sitting pretty at the top of the table as we approach Christmas day and are pretty much half way through the season.

So, here’s AFEfootballnews’ 7 reasons why the Foxes really can challenge for the title this season …

1. Team spirit

The Foxes are on absolute role and that’s down to every single player working they’re socks off each time they stepped out onto the pitch.

Kasper Schmeichel is a hero between the posts, Wes Morgan captains the team well and keeps the defence in check, and Marc Albrighton whips in incredible crosses and through balls to create chance after chance for Vardy and Mahrez.

Everyone of them knows what their responsibility in that team is, and it seems to be keeping things running smoothly.

2. Big teams are struggling

Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, who are they?

The big boys of the league are struggling profusely at the moment and although Arsenal and Manchester City remain in close contention to Leicester, it seems as though there’s never been, or ever will be again, a better chance for them to go for the title.

With regular losses for some of the bigger clubs, most of us would agree that it’s been a seriously unpredictable and thoroughly exciting season so far! (Unless you’re a Chelsea fan of course!).

3. Claudio Ranieri

The bonkers but highly experienced Italian probably still can’t believe the way his team have performed this season, but in truth, alot of their success has been down to him.

He is somewhat of a tactical genius (he’s changed since his Chelsea’s days you know!) And its clear to see that he’s had a massive impact on this Leicester side as they’re playing some great football right now.

4. Vardy and Mahrez

What more can be said?

15 goals for Jamie Vardy (and a certain PL record!) and 13 for Riyad Mahrez, both men are in the top 3 scorers in the league and have been in blistering form.

Should they continue to perform the way they have been doing, avoiding injury along the way, as well as straying away from those pesky transfers to bigger clubs in the January window then they could well fire the club to glory this season!

5. N’golo Kanté
The unsung hero of the team, the French Defensive Midfielder, signed for a bargain sum of £5.5 million from SM Caen in the summer, has made more league interceptions than anybody else so far.

He’s the engine of the team, breaking down opposition attacks and sending the likes of Vardy and Mahrez on the counter attack.

Vital player.

6. They’ve forgotten how to lose …

With just one loss to their name all season, The Foxes are flying high and at the moment truly do seem unbeatable.

The 38 points they’ve collected so far places them at the top of the table, they’ve got that winning feeling and knowing Ranieri and his boys, they’ll be wanting to continue it as far as they possibly can!

7. Goals, goals, goals!

Even in their aforementioned, one league loss this season, they managed to score twice (in a 2-5 loss to Arsenal) , so goals are being scored left, right and centre at the moment!

They’ve scored more goals than any other club (37), so even when they don’t have Mahrez and Vardy, they can count on others such as Okazaki and Ulloa to provide them with the goals.

Quick facts about the club:

Formed in: 1884
Nicknamed: The Foxes
Captain: Wes Morgan
Manager: Claudio Ranieri
Chairman: Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha
Stadium: King Power Stadium
Capacity: 32,262
Record transfer: Andrej Kramaric (£9 million from HNK Rijeka, Croatia)

Usual starting 11:

GK. Peter Schmeichel

CB. Wes Morgan
CB. Robert Huth
LB. Christian Fuchs
CDM. N’golo Kanté
RM. Nathan Dyer
CM. Andy King

Just think …

At this point last year, they were bottom of the league and doomed for relegation, so never give up eh?
